An antique statement! If you love a statement ring this is an amazing piece, with its gorgeous oval front covered in foil backed paste stones, 22 of them to be precise. I love the grey tones of the stones paired with the rose gold. Even though it’s a large statement piece it has a low profile and kind of hugs the finger meaning it could be a lovely comfy wear. She really flashes and sparkles in the light.
In the 1720s a French jeweller came up with paste, which is leaded glass, this was able to be faceted like a gemstone. It became very popular during the Georgian and Victorian eras, especially by aristocracy. It wasn’t seen as imitation jewellery it was highly regarded, especially for the way it sparkles under candlelight. I love to save paste jewellery from being melted down as it’s a real part of jewellery history and should be appreciated.
